TRACE2026
Through a series of experiments aimed at reconsidering the way light is controlled in the digital age, the interaction with a lamp was reduced to a single, immediate spatial gesture. Instead of an app, a switch, or a conventional mechanism, the lamp responds directly to the proximity of the hand. Distance sensors detect position and movement and translate them into light: brightness, colour temperature, or the position of individual LED segments can be altered through a simple gesture. This creates a direct, physical interaction with the light object, without external interfaces intervening. Control, light, and object merge into one.

The outcome of the project is not only the digital control system, but also five application specific design approaches demonstrating how the technology can be integrated into different lamp typologies.
